Until We Become Something Else explores that moment when one thing begins to give way to another. A heavily textured ridge of deep reds, browns, black, and gold moves across the canvas, separating two very different spaces—while long metallic drips cross the boundary between them.
Above, soft whites and luminous metallics create a striking contrast with the weight and texture below. Rather than keeping those elements neatly contained, I allowed the layers, colors, and marks to push into one another and change the direction of the painting as I worked.
Gold and metallic details catch the light differently throughout the day, adding another sense of movement to a piece that never feels completely still.
It’s a painting about being somewhere in between—no longer quite what you were, without needing to know exactly what comes next.
